Make Mother’s Day Special

March 11th marks a rather special occasion this year. A day in the calendar where we can spoil the most important women in our lives – the mothers, grandmothers and mother-in-laws who have guided, advised, loved and helped us along the way. While of course it’s important to spoil them all year round, this second Sunday in March provides an extra special opportunity to say thank you.

It’s important to remember though, that the emphasis shouldn’t always be about gifts, expense or spending, but rather about gifting your time and being thoughtful. A home-baked cake, a bunch of seasonal blooms or whiling away an afternoon watching her favourite films with a pot of tea are sometimes just as special.

If you’re looking for a little inspiration though, we’ve got a few suggestions…

make a day of it

afternoon tea

A quintessential and truly British past-time, enjoying afternoon tea continues to be popular, more than three centuries after it was formally introduced by the upper classes in the mid 1700s. Today, it is the perfect way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon. With many independent cafes and restaurants serving this delicious English delicacy up and down the country, you’re a little spoilt for choice when it comes to savoury sandwich fillings and moreish home-baked cakes.

visit a garden

The spring months are finally upon us and with the promise of more sunshine now only a few weeks away when we put the clocks forward, it seems the perfect opportunity to get outside and see what’s starting to pop up in our gardens. The National Trust offer an array of beautiful and soon-to-be colourful options across the UK, or an afternoon amble in your local park will no doubt be lined with daffodils and early spring blooms.

a day of shopping

A little bit of retail therapy is always a good idea. If you fancy making it that little bit more special, why not venture to a new town or city for an afternoon filled with exploration too? We’ve just opened our brand new store in the beautiful cathedral town of Chelmsford. Located within the new Bond Street retail development, we’ve got some rather lovely neighbours, including Cath Kidston, L’Occitane and The White Company, not to mention an array of delicious eateries, so you can really make a day of it! If Chelmsford is a little far for you to come, we’ve also got our store in the fine city of Norwich and our flagship store nestled within the Cotswolds in Stow-on-the-Wold.

did you know?

Within each of our three stores we have a wonderful collection of exclusive and vintage-inspired country accessories – from ceramic bowls to enamel jugs and own very own candles and reed diffusers – that all make the perfect gift for those mums whose hearts are well and truly in the country!
