We’re a huge advocate of making special days memorable by getting creative rather than splashing the cash. A few simple gestures can say so much more than extravagant gifts, so here are just a few of our suggestions for making Mother’s Day marvellous…

Breakfast in Bed

If you’re close enough to pop in, delivering breakfast in bed is a winner! You can really go to town by creating a Mother’s Day menu out of card and listing the food ‘on offer’. With a selection of fruit, pastries, a cooked breakfast and a selection of teas and coffees to choose from, you can make it feel like a real treat without breaking the bank. If you’re too far away to deliver this yourself there are several companies offering to deliver ‘breakfast in bed’ straight to your Mum’s door on your behalf! Take a look at Deliveroo and see if they’re delivering in her area.

Eating Out or Staying In?

It’s often hard to get a table somewhere on Mothering Sunday, so don’t be afraid to eat in. The key is to make it look and feel special, so a good start is to shower your table in flowers from the shop or garden. They don’t have to be an expensive bouquet, just enough to add colour and vibrancy to your lunch or dinner. Maybe even find some vintage plates from a local charity shop to make it feel more decorative. These can even be a part of your present to her; an inexpensive token to remember her day with you.

It’s time to spoil her with her favourite food and what better way to repay her for all the meals she’s cooked over the years, than to rustle up some special treats to let her indulge. If you have siblings, rope them in to make a course each and the treat won’t seem quite as laborious. If she’s into sweets, a stack of fresh pancakes and fruit are easy to rustle up for for a breakfast or desert.

If chocolate’s more her thing, take a look at Jamie’s DIY chocolate truffles, minimum effort; maximum taste and fun!

Planning Time Together

If you want to give an additional gift as well as having time with her on the day, most Mother’s will be pleased as punch with the opportunity to plan more time together. Afternoon tea somewhere special is great, take a look at The Wolseley in London for some Art Deco splendor. Cocktails at Kensington Roof Gardens is also a fun trip. For something more active and less foodie, take a look at the National Trust Walks for ideas and plan an excursion around an area she wants to visit.

Creative Courses

If you want to give a gift that lasts and mum likes to get crafty; take a look at some local creative courses and enroll her onto one you think she’ll love. It’s a great from a social point of view, she’ll learn a new skill and if you live locally too, you could even join her!
