Desk Top Bookcase

I would have given this five stars for build quality had it not been for our problem. I bought this bookcase as a floor standing unit, as it was advertised as suitable for a stand alone bookcase as well as a desk top unit. However - be warned - this is NOT suitable for floor standing as the screws are visible on the top wooden panel. We noticed this before unpacking the bookcase, so didn’t unwrap any further as we returned it. What we did see through the packaging looked very good quality, this was the only problem we found. The bookcase would be excellent as a desktop unit as the screws wouldn’t be visible, but no use for floor standing. The colour is more a creamy white rather than a white

I like my desktop bookcase but was disappointed to discover that I couldn't position it where I had intended, on top of a low (H58cm) cupboard as it needed to be screwed to the wall., which wouldn't have been possible. I don't remember this being mentioned in the online information, which I read before purchasing. I then had to move the bookcase from the study, where the (very pleasant and courteous) delivery men left it and it is now freestanding in the hall. Luckily I had a space for it there but it's not where I wanted it. The bookcase is attractive and well made but I probably wouldn't have bought it had I known that it had to be fixed to the wall.

I wanted a small bookcase and this fitted the bill. I read what other reviewers said about the sunken screws in the top of the bookcase as the item is meant to be fitted on top of the office unit so you wouldn’t normally see the screws. I wanted a small standalone bookcase. The screw holes don’t bother me but can understand why some people don’t like them. I’m very happy with my bookcase. It’s sturdy and well made. It arrived ready assembled so I just put it in its place, fitted the shelves in and put my books in.
