This is a really great table - it is very well made. However, I have to say there needs to be a big improvement on the delivery and assembly planning for this table. The 2 guys who delivered the table did not know what was contained in the 2 packages. They really struggled to get the largest package up our drive into the house. The smaller package was easy to handle and contained the table legs. The largest package containing the table top, extension leaves and supporting frame was too heavy for my wife and I to lift. I managed to drag the large package into the dining room and placed it flat on the floor. I cut the cardboard away to reveal a tabletop but it was still too heavy for us to turn over. The table extension points were locked in place and we could not figure out how to unlock it. After 3 hours we managed to jack the table up on some of the polystyrene packing and get underneath to look for ways to open it up. We found the hardware box with the screws, washers and dowels as well as the instructions on how to unlock the table to remove the extension leaves! This told me that there were 4 locking points holding the table in place. From that point it only took me 1 hour to assemble the table. I hope that Cotswold will take note of this review. We like your products but you need to rethink a few things! Please split heavy items up into smaller packages! Please put assembly instructions on the outside of the packaging!
While I'm glad the table doesn't have an awful glossy varnish. The finish on the oak top is not good enough for a family table. I have had to pply oil and wax it to protect the wood better from sticky chocolate fingers.
Extremely happy with the table now we’ve managed to open it and wax the mechanism. This took an hour to avoid any possible damage. It would be a good idea to include a care and maintenance leaflet in the packaging and require the makers to ensure better movement of the mechanism before it leaves the factory.
