Furniture for your home office doesn’t have to be plain, boring and functional. We all spend a lot of time working so we think it makes sense to invest in something beautiful and lasting, something that adds warmth and luxury to the work space. Step forward the Cottage Oak Computer Desk. Its solid red oak construction, with some veneers for added strength, and beautifully timeworn, rustic appearance means it looks like it’s been in business for years, with many more successful years ahead of it. A slide-out tray will look after your keyboard and there are two useful cupboards and a drawer for all your bits and pieces. Simple metal handles add vintage country charm, and a layer of light lacquer provides protection against everyday knocks.

Although the quality of construction is very good, we were disappointed to find that upon placing the pc tower within the unit, the door would not close. At the inner rear of the cupboard a horizontal timber support had been fitted mid way up thus preventing the tower being fully recessed. We had to remove the backing board and saw off the support in order for the tower to fit and the door to close. Also, if we can replace the backing board, the hole for the cables will have to be enlarged as the existing hole is too small to permit all cables to be fitted. Considering the price of the furniture, we feel the design and construction of this particular area requires review.

This is a really nice desk. Very solidly built. I like it a lot but it's not without fault. Being picky I would say it would be even better if the PC cupboard had a much larger hole cut in the back to suit more than a smallish sized machine. Also because you should allow air to circulate away from the back of the PC to keep things cool, you can't really put the desk very close to a wall. This leaves an annoyingly large gap - if the rear of the top of the desk had some overhang in the same way as the front does it would help reduce this.
